Poetry is also a huge interest of mine. Writing poetry has been a way for me to express myself and release my emotions. I especially love spoken word poetry. From ninth to twelfth grade, I participated in Packer’s annual Poetry Chapel, which is a Middle and Upper School poetry performance that happens during National Poetry Month in April. I used Poetry Chapel as an opportunity to share a message about a relevant topic that I believe is important for my school community to consider.
In ninth grade, I took down the house performing How Can We Autocorrect Humanity by Prince EA, one of my favorite spoken word poets. His poem is about the consequences of technology and how it has stopped us from making real in person connections.
In tenth grade, I read Complainers by Rudy Francisco about being thankful for what you have and to stop complaining about minor things.
Then in eleventh grade, I performed an original poem I wrote during my time at the Urban Word Summer Institute titled America’s School System Needs to be Changed. This poem is about the problems with America’s school system and the need for education reform, something I am very passionate about.

Finally, in twelfth grade, I read an original poem titled Ode to Poetry Chapel about Poetry Chapel itself and its impact on my life. I was dubbed Packer’s de facto student poet laureate on the Packer Collegiate instagram.
